My own experience with pain is personal. I have suffered, too, am suffering now as I write and have reason to expect that I will continue to suffer – perhaps to the very end of my days. So, when people assure me that God is in control, that begs a big question for me: Why does God allow my pain to persist? Sure, God is powerful; but is He truly good? Does He really have my welfare in mind? I have received a lot of bland assurances and I've heard a lot of cliches over the years from sincere people trying to answer that question. But not until I began to grasp an important teaching of the Bible, did I find the comfort I craved. Indeed, I have found a reason to rejoice.
The reason is found in God's promise to reward faith in Him. Simply put: For followers of Jesus, every act of faithfulness will produce a benefit that will be enjoyed for all of eternity. So, every moment of pain that you and I endure with faith in God and in His promises will be rewarded someday. It may not come in this lifetime; but it will come.
God promises reward hundreds of times in His Word. Some of those verses are shown in the "Verses on Reward" tab. I'll comment on them as we go along. So, stay with me and join in the discussion!
